Whereas Skype is an application, WebRTC is a technology. WebRTC enables real-time communication through the use of a web browser. This allows for users to communicate through audio, video and text, without ever needing to install a plugin or download and application.
Not only that but it allows companies to incorporate the service into their website, helping to enhance the user experience. It also ensures that all media sent via WebRTC is encrypted, making it one of the most secure options for web-based communications.
Essentially, the two platforms provide the same services in different ways. Skype is an application, while WebRTC is a technology. Skype is often the solution for companies that don’t have the technical expertise to implement WebRTC technology or simply don’t want to. While WebRTC is used by companies that want to integrate a communication service into their website or other Internet-based platforms that they can customize.
Difference in video quality
Skype has worked very hard over the last few years to make advancements in their video and audio quality.
