Polycom just announced the launch of a new innovative technology, Acoustic Fence. This feature helps eliminate background noise during phone conversations on VVX Business Media Phones, making calls quieter and clearer.

This new product was created to help businesses who have loud office environments.  Acoustic Fence uses the handset and speakerphone microphones to measure the audio delay between the two and focus on the caller’s voice. It then uses what Polycom calls “echo cancellation” techniques to lower the volume of any noise not coming from the caller.

This virtual “fence” is modeled by the microphones, and as Polycom states on their site, “sounds from ‘outside of the fence’ are blocked from being heard by remote participants. The end result reduces and allows remote callers to hear and focus on the meeting at hand.”

By using Polycom’s Acoustic Fence businesses can help reduce customer frustration and call duration, because the communication is clearer and background noise is less distracting. It also has the potential to reduce wait times and the number of callers required to stay on hold while other customers are attended to.
